Sub-cultures draw particular characters to it. The whole Black Metal scene is very much feeling over reason. It follows the Romanticism tradition. So it draws people who are naturally inclined to feeling their way through things (for example Hitler talked often about providence saving him or inspiring him to act). They can be perfectly right in that whatever natural disposition they have has by chance led them to a truth because that truth doesn't offend their natural inclinations but when they talk about how they came to the conclusion their thinking about it is incoherent and often contradictory to everyone else but makes perfect sense to them. They haven't actually thought about it beyond the superficial. That they feel they're right is good enough. Notice how Varg's understanding of the basics is so poor. He'll look at news articles about population genetics but that is as far as he'll go and because that's as far as he'll go he'll make bizarre statements. If the holes aren't filled with some deeper understanding of the subject, which means looking at the incomplete information available and applying reason, it'll be filled with whatever nonsense the person feels is accurate because it's self serving (how rare is it for someone to come to a conclusion they hate? It's very rare.)
This is why so many people of this sub-culture are attracted to New Age marketing gimmicks. Say what you want about Christianity but it has a deep intellectual history. There is no St. Augustine or Thomas Aquinas among these people. There is a large section of books in Barnes & Nobles that cater to New Age nonsense and ancient European tribal religions (always so much about Druids) as well as other groups and it's just idiotic. It's people wanting to return to the primitive and creating a fantasy in their mind of the supposed purity of the primitive. It's easier to idealize something they'll never experience. If they had the opportunity to experience it, they'd hate it. Our ancestors didn't live an ideal life. It sucked. You watched many of your children die before they reached their second year. You had to worry about someone burning down your village and enslaving you. There is nothing in the primitive to idealize.

Wtf? He looked my age in 1998, and now he looks like a borderline grandpa. 1998 was only 19 years ago, this man must have had a very stressful life or smthn.

He does have some interesting points. I have never heard of him before, but his past seems interesting.
I think the main problem is, there are a bunch of intelligent European nationalists, but the media focuses on the loud, ignorant, racist ones the most, so it makes the intelligent ones have to hide out more cause they're afraid of being called racist.
I think the more intelligent ones need to be on YouTube more and stuff like that, so they get more attention.

^^This. And I think what draws some people to liberal ideology is the fact that liberals do come across as superior, especially compared to many on the far right. Look at twitter for instance, in 80% of the cases when a liberal leftist gets into an argument with a person on the far right, the leftist ends up ridiculing them with arguments and wit. Far rightists tend to be intellectually challenged in may cases, resorting to conspiracy theories and rants and generally seeming overtly emotional and lacking rationality. The right-wing people who seem to be intellectually on par with liberals are libertarians, who make a good job out of ridiculing overt political correctness. Unlike most far rightist, they seem to understand sarcasm and use it viciously against liberals.I'm absolutely convinced a large segment of the white liberal/leftist population is actually more elitist than egalitarian and are more anti-racist because they think right-wingers are retarded, not that they legitimately care about all of humanity or whatever.

The irony is that what he says applies most of all to liberals like OP.
