I generally don't make eye contact with strangers, there's no need. However if a stranger is infact looking at me, I stare back at them to make them feel uncomfortable. It's my way of saying, "mind your own business" and they understand it.

I'm American. Where I live, people are friendly. I often smile and greet people when out and about. Sometimes, I even end up chatting with various folks for a bit. People always respond in a positive manner to me. No one ever says, "Fuck off, you Neo-Nazi wannabe Ukrainian bitch! If you smile at me one more goddamn time, I'm going to thrust this giant dildo into your anus, understand?"

No, people where I live are mannerly and friendly.

When I went to the village bakery/coffee shop this morning, I talked to lots of people. The mood was cheerful.

As a Norman woman I need distance between me and strangers in street or anywhere, at least 1 meter between me and other in public areas. In my native town people look a lot in the eyes in streets because they always think they can recognize a relative in streets or something like that lol. By the way, eye contact from distance in a party or a bar generally means "trying to seduce" to me as a Norman woman. This is the way men interract for the first time, they look at the woman (just what she's doing first and after in eyes if she answered by look too or smiles).

So I don't look strangers in eyes, I look my friends in eyes a lot that's normal, but not someone I don't know

The "look" game between a man and a woman is a seduction btw here. If the contact is ok the man can come closer and start talking with the woman. Let's see if they become friends or more if she wants to.
