I was watching some things about Bollywood on YouTube and ran into this documentary on one of the most OWD countries/regions in the entire world (no offense Indians and Bengalis). It taught me a lot. "OWD" people aren't born thinking that white is better, they are bullied into it since childhood by not only their classmates, but adult figures and teachers as well. Women are told that they will never get married because they are dark brown/black skinned. Door after door gets shut in their face when they reach the age to get married. An Indian women said that when she was looking for a husband, some men's mother would say, "my son is fair skinned, we want a fair skinned women," and others would say "my son is dark skinned, we want a fair skinned women." OWD (true OWD, as presented in the documentary) is not something that OWDers should be shamed of. It is not their fault, we should be shaming society, white supremacy (not white people), and colonization for making them that way, for raising them in a terrible environment like that.
Honestly, this documentary is so sad. The snobby, fair skinned, baggy eyed indian actress looked a lot less attractive than many of the dark skinned women anyways. She also failed to realize that regardless of her "fair skin," she will always be seen as a woman of color to others and should not normalize a system that oppresses her.
