Language used as a proxy for ethnicity is a sensitive issue and emotive as it can come with many incorrect assumptions.

They could have confirmed with Italians regarding such perceived linguistic differences. It seems a bit intentional to have an "ethnic" separation. Maybe the guy saw Sikeliot threads regarding Sicilians.

I see on your link they created separate categories regarding White British and White Irish. Seems an attempt at race profiling hiding behind language excuses.
