I believe that a father and daughter who have a positive and healthy relationship, the daughter would care about her father's opinion and concern of her boyfriends. Although this seems very rare in the modern world. Most fathers are absent (bastards), abusive, or simply mal-educate their children. A good father is rare. And so this is reflective of modern women and their poor sense of relationships, divorces, promiscuous behaviors, etc.
I further believe the best thing to do is to first 'be' the example that you are hoping for. Therefore a good family begins with a solid relationship between the husband and wife. And if it is healthy then the children will (naturally) want to reproduce that healthy behavior, and see lesser relationships and degenerate behavior as it is, unhealthy. Therefore the actions and decisions that people already make, are also already reflective of their previous family experience.
The best thing a society can do is find, point-out, and herald the better and best families of its population, and reward them as an example to be emulated by the masses. The opposite is happening right now, like with the Kardashian pop media. Instead of a good, moral, healthy family being heralded. Pop culture is doing the opposite, and heralding a lowly, immoral family. Ignoble and degenerate. Perhaps then that is most appealing to the most amount of people. That is popular. Low values are popular, like abusing drugs and living a hedonistic lifestyle.
In fact maybe that (hedonism) will always prevail in popularity over 'better' and superior values.
To answer your question more directly:
I think it's inevitable that a father is going to 'dislike' his daughter's suitors. He will always think less of the boys and men chasing after his daughter. And so inevitably he must trust her judgment, and that can be a matter of chance. Because everybody knows how good women are at judging others, men, and potential boyfriends (they're horrible at it). Women are taken by charismatic "players", easily seducing women, then turning-out to be abusive or bastard, and will pump & dump as soon as he can get away with it.
