Cancer researchers don't attract a large audience doing what they do. Athletes are paid their market value (give or take depending on how successful their agents are in negotiating contracts.)

Soccer is very popular here in the US among girls. I view it as a girl's sport for that reason.

Absolutely dumb question. Since an awful lot of people are watching sports, either live or on TV, an awful lot of money would be generated. So then, what options are there with all this money? Do you want owners to take everything, so the players wouldn't earn that much or what? Obviously not, I suppose. That would be the same thing as large companies not paying their employees shit, just on a different scale. Or should an enormous taxation be put on the money sportsmen earn? Ok, then you're simply a commie. Also, why stop here? There are many other similar instances of alleged injustice in economy. Free market would soon be devastated, if we would have adopted such policies and that's not a slippery slope. With the free market down, abusing the economy by people in charge begins pretty much necessarily. An item is worth whatever people are willing to pay for it. We have a free market, fortunately, there's no such thing as some centralized economic institution, which would redistribute all the money according to proposed usefullness and importance. I said fortunately, because I'm absolutely certain, such a system would be abused horribly by the people in charge.

Signing up your kid for a sports team is one of the best thing you can do for him. Not only teaches him a lot about winning and losing, but also keeps him active.

The kid should decide, whether he wants to do the said sport or not, on his own.

The owners are filthy rich and can afford to pay that much. Furthermore, sports clubs/organization earn a lot of money in revenue from TV rights/viewership and ticket sales to make up for the spending.

After watching Garbrandt work over Cruz and Nunes masterfully deconstruct Rousey in 20 seconds I must say I love sports very much. It's enjoyable watching people with a high level of ability who will obsessively train to be the best in their field perform. At its best sports is art in motion.
