    Default 10 Calabrese GEDmatch results.

Some people requested them so here they are.

Some of them are "regular" Southern Italian results such as #1, #4, #5, #7, #10. others are very outlying and exotic (shifting heavily to Cyprus and Levant) such as #2, #3, #6, #8, #9 (of these, #8 and #9 have a low North African component and are almost exactly Cretan).

Some of the others do not come up 50% Spanish, 50% Lebanese... some of them the Lebanese is as high as 65-70% and the rest comes up Spanish.

#6 is the most exotic BY FAR of these: closest to Levantines on PuntDNA-L at 12 distance, and gets Syrian Jews in top 20 on MDLP. A lot of Calabrese have assimilated Jewish ancestry, this may be an example.

    Which one is closest?

What is interesting is unlike a few Sicilians, not one of these people is anywhere close to mainland Greeks nor plots as north as Abruzzo.

#5 is one of the less outlying out of these results. I am unsure what happened in Calabria that makes some of them so outlying.

Maybe the area experienced population influx from the Eastern Mediterranean during the Early Byzantine era.

From where though? Hellenized West Asians? Some of these are more outlying than even the Dodecanese.

    Not necessarily Hellenized, just Anatolians.
