Default Which nation do you see as culturally closest to Greece, all factors considered?

By this I mean everything: food, religion, way of life, architecture, attitudes, dress style, music.

    I would say:

    Southern Italy/Sicily
    All Balkan countries
    Turkey

A lot of those were culturally close to Greece at one point, but aren't anymore.

    Which? Former Byzantine areas?

I do think southern Italy and Balkans both have substantial cultural similarities but in different ways. While the food is the same and music styles with the Balkans, you can go to the Aegean islands and the overall vibe -- the laid back demeanor, the way people dress, the social dynamics -- are the same as Sicily. So it varies.

The former Byzantine areas were obviously once culturally very much like Greeks. At one point, Afghanistan was also culturally very Greek as well (Greco-Bactrian kingdom, Alexander the Great era). However, the only thing Afghanistan notably shares cultural similarities with Greeks in today is the Khattak sword dance. The "Macedonian hat" was also inspired by the Afghan hat:

Egypt also shared many cultural elements with Greece.

However, today, it seems that Italy, Iberia, the Balkans (obviously), and the Christian Levant share the most cultural elements with the Greeks.

I think Greece is in the same cultural sphere as Sicily only there is more affinity to the Orthodox world and Turkey than what you find in the former.
