There is little to no mainland Greek DNA in Crete, Sicily, Aegean islands, or southern Italy.

Let's look at Ancient Eurasia K6.

If you look at a modern Cretan, Calabrese, Sicilian or Aegean islander result, you'll see they are heavily MENA shifted. When you look at a proper Greek result, they're not.

If those islands and Calabria have substantial Greek DNA and that the two groups had once been the same, one of two things happened:

a) the Greek DNA was overrun by massive inflows of MENA genes,
OR
b) Greeks are so Slavicized today that they are nothing like their ancient ancestors.

Both are unlikely. To me, what is likely is that Greek DNA was a small part of the male line of colonization, the islands had large and related populations before the Greeks settled, and the Greek culture took root quickly.

Otherwise there is no way you could get from these:

The same holds on every calculator. It is impossible for the populations to have ever been the same unless you think Sicilians and Cretans are 25% MENA since ancient Greek times, or Greeks are the equivalent amount Slavic.

My point is just that either we assume the impact was small of Greek DNA into the islands, Crete, and Sicily or we assume it was massive and one of the two populations if not both have since been largely impacted in opposite directions.
