I don't find the majority argument convincing because the point of freedom of speech is to defend minority views. If we had a rabidly racist community in the South, no one would oppose a student violating the school's racist speech rules, even if it caused a disruption.
You make a good point that the goal of public schools is education, and schools should shape the environment to further that end. But the rules will ultimately be arbitrary, either the majority deciding what's okay or a vocal minority - perhaps the school leaders - deciding what's okay. Why are Christian students forbidden to give religious graduation speeches, for example? If freedom of speech is incompatible with early education, then again, I want government out of it. Then, at least students will cede their freedom of speech to the entity they or their parents choose.
