The unique pure blood Lusitano horse

A Portuguese horse, very related to the spanish Andalusian horse. Both are sometimes called Iberian horses, as the breeds both developed on Iberia.

Description:

The Lusitano is a compact horse with a short back, muscular shoulders and hindquarters, and long, slender legs. It has a beautiful thick, arching neck and a full, wavy mane and tail.
The features that most distinguish it from an Andalusian are the more pronounced convexity of the head, the more sloping croup, and the lower set tail.
Lusitanos generally stand between 15 and 16 hands high, and, like the Andalusian, are predominantly grey in color.

Yes, the Lusitano and Andaluz used to be considered the same breed until around 5 or 6 decades ago but breeding processes produced some divergences between them and it there was a recognition of beeing 2 separated breeds.

I mostly distinguish them because of the convexity of the head wich is more pronounced in the Lusitano.

This horse breed has won many Olympic medals. They are used by our national guard as well.

The Lusitano also differs from the Andaluz because it was breeded to recover the characteristics of the original Iberian horse. Is widely considered one of the best working horses (winning many Working Equitation competions) and his temper maked him excel as a war horse and with no doubt the best for bullfighting. Because is very versatile, it is if properly trained, can be very competent at dressage and jumping events.

Merlin (of Pablo Hermoso de Mendonza) is pointed by most experts as the best bullfighting horse in history, amazing horse

Sim, é mesmo mas preferia não o ver em touradas. Ainda hoje tive oportunidade de ver uns 100 durante o cortejo fúnebre do Mário Soares, passaram perto do meu local de trabalho.
