Probably everyone here has heard about the alleged Jewish involvement in the Atlantic slave trade, but is it true or just an urban legend? How heavy was Jewish involvement in this thing?

I saw a statistic about slave owner in USA and jews were hugely overepresented. They represent the majority of the slave owner while they were a small minority.

I find this hard to believe.

Jews also controlled the commerce of black slaves into Africa continent, selling them for muslims. Some african kings even expelled the jews fearing they enslaved the whole population of their kingdoms. They also introduced greek,syrian, turkic-tatar and slav women as slave in Black Africa, to serve in the harens of black kings. Due religious reasons, christians and muslim are forbidden to do some works (like castration for eunuchs), thus jews monopolized this areas.

The main problem in Latin America is due inquisition, jews were obligated to convert to christianism (some prefered to die, some migrated from Iberia to Turkey, yes, muslims were more tolerant), thus is diffcult to meansure their participation in atlantic slave trade.
