I said they were Plosh, not Cambodians.
Don't underestimate the Eastern Europeans. They won't accept to do any job at any cost.
My friends live in good material conditions, they are landlords, respected by their Scando neighbors. They drive a shitty vintage Peugeot 305 station wagon, but they can't complain.
Whenever I go to visit them in Norway, I'm sure to receive a warm welcome. And I sleep in a warm bed, not on a mattress.

The whole idea that the local population is too lazy to do the work is nonsense... they try to claim that in the USA.. but practically all job fields have immigrants under 50%.
They are competitive for work, they live together in large groups in cheap housing.. I was laid off for a job to relocate to a couple hours drive to the nearby state where there is a high number of immigrants.. with a lower minimum wage to pay them (and that they were willing to work for)

"Locals are too lazy" is indeed bogus. Many locals did all of the dirty works even when the first guest workers arrived.

I always imagine myself if such things were happening in Somalia...
I'd imagine that if I were living in Somalia and were exposed to foreigners speaking Urdu or Polish all the time, I'd learn to find out if they are talking shit about me or my people. I only say that because Im already familiar with several languages, and more often than not, when immigratns are speaking in a foreign language it is to talk shit and mock people without them understanding.

It's a fairly common practice in times of low unemployment levels and where wages have risen. It's not to say all migrants are unskilled and willing to do anything but many from third world nations or from nations with record unemployment will do whatever it takes.
Such employers are greedy, profit driven and more common than most realize. Their business associations lobby governments to allow such changes to the detriment of the natives and the country.
The locals aren't lazy. Their wages generally reflect the cost of living in their nations. The "Locals are too lazy" is both a lie and offensive.

This was during the recession when a decrease of demand for their product had already led to decreased hours and a gutting of the bonus program. My experience is dwarfed compares to yours, but I've found it to be more the case with higher unemployment levels, that businesses ruthlessly drive down the costs of production via employees... don't like it? There's a lot more people applying to do the work, turnover be damned. That blue collar job went from working class pay to just above minimum wage.. (and then lower) people end up much better off working a different minimum wage job that is less stressful on the joints.
