    It depends on Brazilian law. In Poland, they would be obligated to pay alimony to grandmother.

    Of course, their grandmother has to prove that she can't support herself and needs alimony.

    This is so freaking weird. Can you please link a source?

    Alimony is a legal obligation on a person to provide financial support to their spouse before or after marital separation or divorce. What does that have to do with the other family members?

    It makes more sense that people help their relatives. I'm not sure why people would abandon their relatives, but it should ultimately be that person's choice how they spend their money.

    Like, if the grandmother and aunt raised those two rich siblings, and the rich siblings just left them in poverty, yeah, that's fucked up, but charity should not be enforceable by the government. :-/
