From Wikipedia it seems very much like they were their own group.

It is hard to say how different all those ancient peoples were. Were there any genetic, linguistic, cultural difference ??? Evidently what was written, was written in Greek. Does it make them all Greeks?? That it does is the stand point of the present Greeks as far as the individuality of the Macedonians is concerned. After more than 2000 years somebody rediscovered Paeonians. Now our name will be Paeonia.

Paeonia was comprised of what is now known as FYROM. Macedonia as an ancient region only went as far north as Bitola (Monastiri)

We are Paeonians and Republic of Macedonia should be named to Republic of Paeonia.
Rediscovery of the extinct Paeonians triggers the Greek fantasy in search for our new name.
FYI: I am Macedonian you like it or not.

I don't know but Dardanians were considered 'Greek'* in some Roman sources while today they are considered 'Illyrian' usually, I think. Not much to do with it but it shows how fucked up these things are.

*That's also true about the Lepontians in the Alps btw according to Pliny but today they call an ancient Celtic language of the Alps with that name.

Paeonians were Illyrians mixed with Thracians.

The Illyrian hinterland was in the areas albanians compose today, incuding antire montenegro and some parts of Dalmatia.

In these areas the united Ilyrian Kingdom appeared in 410 under Bardyl King ( white star in Albanian) and for 250 years it was one of the main powers of the Mediterranean world.

Dardanian kingdom defeated the macedonian kingdom almost in every war, only Philip II managed to stop their invasion . They defeated the Celts also in 285 BC.

They were illyrians but created an independent kingdom.

Paeonians were not much relevant and we do not know much about them.

Since you call us firom/firomians and you do not allow us to call ourselves Paeonians, godfather what is your proposal?
