Polish should have been the largest Slavic language and Poland-Lithuania Commonwealth should've colonised the world, from the North Pole to the South Pole.
I like how Poles don't take themselves too serious. In that regard they're very alike to Flemish people.

Russian, which I am in the slow process of learning. Russian literature is very rich, probably the richest in Europe, if not even the world, and I'd like to learn to read this rich literature in its original language.

Agree. There's no word strong enough to describe the geopolitical mess in ex-Yugoslavia.
Listen, I hate Serbia's demonstration of nationalism, like recently, when all the members of the Serbian elite gathered on January's 9th in Banja Luka to celebrate Republika Srpska's National Day. They rejected the Dayton Agreement and would like to see this Bosnian entity fully integrated into Serbia. They didn't mention the Muslim detention camps in Prijedor, Brcko, Foca and Visegrad, the mosques burned and the genocide of Srebrenica.
But a language remains a language, and ignores geopolitics. Serbian and Bosnian are two varieties of the same language, as true as Alsatian spoken in Eastern France is a German dialect.

I speak serbo-croatian or serbian or however you want to name it already, but I would learn russian. Russian is the most influential and most widely spoken slavic language, might be good for business too.
