Our nurses (Krankenschwestern) are just assisting. They can do some medical interventions like giving injections but they aren't doctors. Nevertheless they learn for example the medical language so they can understand what the doctors say and have some minor medical training. Still you don't have to have a bachelor or master to become a nurse, but the training takes 3 years.

Here in Portugal it is a college degree that takes 4 years and you need to have good marks at school to be able to apply. Nurse assistant is a different story but you don't need a college degree to assist patients in their well being.
Nurses on the other hand in here need to have deep knowledge in pharmacology, they are actually "half-Doctors" if you can say so when their degree is done.

Here you have to have a uni degree. There are some doctor's assistants that go in some schools that are kind-of-like colleges, where they only can be assistands like : helping in surgery by giving the correct scapels, help the surgeons, change elderly , or some bandages and maybe an injection . Nothing more.
