Well, it does bash your country for being stuck in the 19th century, the last glory period for the French civilisation supposedly. But that's how ED is. It is exaggerated and meant to be offensive.

I'm Belgian myself, but in a way I've always wanted to leave this country, even as a very young boy. It's hard to sum up the psyche of an entire "nation", but some adjectives come to mind: ugly, sheepish, anarchistic, corrupt, not taking responsibility, xenophobic, alcoholic, depressed, uncaring, rude (especially my own region, Flanders), not corteous, provincialistic, unwilling to take risks, did I mention ugly?, not very keen on personal hygiene (especially dental hygiene, my God, one would think they still live in the Middle Ages! They only go to the dentist when their teeth are literally killing them or falling out of their mouth).[1]

I haven't written a word of that article, but I very well could have written that (except about the hygiene and ugly parts, those are nonsense).

Alcohol consumption has lowered a lot in western Europe since WW2, back in the days, it was at least twice higher as today.

In 1960, french used to drink twice more than a modern russian:

Back in the day, at least in wine producing countries, almost all men drank wine during the meals that increased ALOT the yearly consumption...nowadays people consume alcohol mostly when they go to bars/discos, not on a daily basis, very different drinking habits.
