Default Kings are chosen by God

In the Trew Law, King James I of Great Britain mentioned the divine right of kings. He exolained that for biblical reasons kings are higher than other men. The document proposes an absolutist theory which states that a king may impose new laws by royal prerogative but must also pay heed to tradition and to God.
King James I reigned from 1603 to 1625. He told Parliament in 1610: 'The state of monarchy is the supremest thing on earth.'
Are kings higher than other men?

    That's what defines a king.

The Basilikon Doron and the True Law of Free Monarchies are excellent treatise on the moral authority of a righteous and Christian monarchy.

The entire start of Monarchies in general were based on the idea of Divine Right. They claimed they had these biblical bloodlines to assume power in the first place. The Roman Empire had a lot of civil wars, coups and emperor assassinations. The only thing that really ended it was Constantine claiming to rule by divine right. This became the template which European monarchies followed through the Middle Ages.

Sumerian city-state kings who came before them, claimed direct blood descendants from actual gods.

They are based on the premise that if you select the vessel (future person to be born) and refuse to change who that person is regardless of what happens, you are leaving it to God to insert the appropriate soul for the task. Hence the King's claim to the divine right of rule stems not from who he is bodily but who he is spiritually, the selected soul.

The correlation between monarchies and divine right began to fade half a century before the English Civil War, and definitely ended completely after. The idea that religion and divine right were wrong became an idea of people like Danton and Robespierre. Because of that radicals tended to support Atheism and Theists used religion to support social classes.

Britain avoided French Revolution style terror and built a bulletproof system that prevented tyrannical kings and queens, and intertwined a perfect system of parliamentary democracy with constitutional monarchism, where the monarch acts as the boundary between tyranny and free living.

God is king of all things and beneath him are the mortal kings of nations and below him a decreasing chain of lordship down to the peasant man over his family and what property he does have.

A monarchy depends on a righteous king. A democracy depends on the population being righteous.
