I don't know man, they say military training will take course over summer so it is possible some young Bosnian Croats who come to Zagreb for study go trough the process before college. I doubt anyone would turn them down if they posses a citizenship and already live in Croatia.

No, in the army you are paid. Here you'd clean toilets and peel potatos for free.
Rather go to Germany few months, get some muscles and discipline working on the autobahn, at least they'd get some money.

It's not mandatory per se, civilian service is still an option.
Compulsory military training was abolished in 2008. because it didn't make sense to keep it.
In 2006. over 50% of recruits used the possibility of conscientious objection and refused to go to the army, instead, they choose the possibility of civilian service.
9512 out of 17341 were conscientious objectors, that's over 50%.
I was among them too.
If I had the possibility to travel back in time and make the choice again, I'd go to the army.
