Default What makes true "art"?...What makes a true "artist"?

What is the definition of true "art" in your opinion? What makes a true "artist" from your perspective? Is it how well you can draw-paint-sculpt?..The unique/original ideas a person can come up with?..Or having the capacity to see things other people can't see?..Or perhaps the image that pops up in your mind is that of the stereotypical hipster?

Good topic. I love art always studied it.

Art is really anything that is made. It can be in any medium/form. Therefore, you can use paint, markers, glass, bricks, etc. Then with all that you can make an art work that can be on paper or 3D. I was never good at ceramics/sculptures but on paper I'm fine as long as I don't use paint. Paint doesn't listen well and is messy.

And an artist would be someone who takes time to create such work. It's not really how well they do it but the fact that they do it. Because beauty in the end comes to the beholder and not every piece of artwork can be beautiful to everyone.

Its subjective I think. You should enjoy it naturally not forced and pretentious. When I walk into Art gallery and see a blank canvas I dont want to think for hours what it may represent or that I should 'feel' a certain way about it.
Its basically a creative way of conveying emotions, storylines etc

Genius artists create their own recognizable style, the others are limited to copying

A true artist is one who succeeds in engendering in the beholder emotions closely similar to those which he/she experieced upon beholding the subject of the painting.
