I think much of crusades occured because until century XX, 99% of christians were illiterate, thus distant to read the truth in Bible, if someone said Bible talks about unicorns everybody would believe.

Egyptians alone fought England-France-Israel in 1956 and we kicked the shit out of them and got suez canal back + we supported the Algerian revolution (with weapons , money and men) against french and they had independence.

It was both a way to give employment to landless knights who served as basically mercenaries or otherwise they'd be brigands (causing social upheaval) but also to counter attack Muslim expansionism. In other words instead of having a volatile group of people causing trouble at home they were sent to cause trouble against a foreign threat.

The employment problem in southern Europe could be alleviated greatly by opening up the market instead of having absurd restrictions that punish the young for their lack of experience and improved by not allowing people a 'right' to keep their job just because they've had the job for a length of time. If you suck at your job, then you shouldn't have it. It shouldn't matter how long you've been sucking at your job. What matters is if you do the job well or not.
