What do you think about the crusades?

It was the right thing to do, but unfortunatly,
not too succesfull. Mekka is still existing, and
Saracens still occupy Jerusalem.

It's just very difficult, logistically to mobilise armies across such distances. Otherwise the crusaders might have reached Mecca if only transportation and supply lines weren't such an obstacle.

They were the most awesome thing ever. I would so readily have joined (the Peasant Crusade probably because I'm from lowly origins and I'd probably wouldn't even have reached Jerusalem and have plundered some Orthodox Christians instead).

Bowmans, longbowmans, footsoldiers, siegers
aso were also used, and not only nobles were
on the crusade. You can't win the war only by
knights. It would be like winning the war today
only by couple of tanks.

I think the motivation for the crusades was partially justified but poorly executed. It went from 'holy mission' to political plaything for monarchs to get more money and power and to create more division. But nevertheless it pushed back some of the alien invading armies around that time that wanted more control of the West and other largely Christian inhabited territories.

back to the topic .. As i mentioned on your previous topic , any crusade would succeed if they managed to control Egypt .. All crusaders went directly to Palestine and Syria that's why it all failed , Luis the ninth was the only smart crusader king , he went to Egypt during Mamluk Era but ended up being captured in Egypt.

The staunchest Euro nationalist also has converted Europe to Islam in that game at least once. But of course not before conquering Jerusalem as a Christian faction.
