I certainly won't deny that religion played a strong role, I just think that other factors were involved as well. Many lower class Crusaders may have been motivated by dreams of riches, a desire to escape the boredom and hard work of village life, or even just because all their friends had joined. I personally think that the average Crusader probably wasn't a fanatic or fundamentalist, and that there were non-spiritual motivations for his actions.

I heard a story that they got a bunch of children that were to fight in the crusade mostly from Italy and I think France and they ended up selling them to the Arabs or something.

To put it simply; lots of young men and children had tricked into catering to material interests of the corrupt clergy that had made use of their religious sentiments and desire to venture. The later generations came to realize that and rebelled. But today there's a rise of mass ignorance and a tendency to glorify the past and backward times.

    Absolutely not.

Mohammedans have repeatedly attacked the Christians of the Near East. The crusades were only defensive wars facing aggressive Mohammedans

It has been for centuries that all these Mohammedans attack the Christians.

I don't defend the other side. It's not a surprise that religions have always triggered wars and bloodshed.

The Crusades sought to conquer places that they considered holy. The same applies to other semitic religions which are obsessed with territory.
