Ireland re-unifying isn't the most pertinent immediate issue now. Irish people being demographically replaced is a much bigger issue than us getting the six counties back although that would be nice too.

I think that Ireland was never united in its entire history. So it should "unify" rather than "re-unify".

Sure, a united Ireland is a good thing and a natural aspiration for the Irish people.

Actually, it was united under the British.

Their nation hadn't formed yet due to imperialism on the outside. It's like the Dutch Rebellion having failed here. People often argue 'you have never been a country with the Netherlands'. But movements toward had have existed regardless.

If Irish claim all of Ireland, they're not following a 'in history it has been a state we seek to restore'. That's not a requirement for irredentism to make sense according to certain forms of nationalism.

Anyway, not my business to chose a side here. People typically say yes, because Irish are underdogs and people love to support the underdog. And Irish also are known as more jovial merry people compared to snobby tea-drinking Brits. It's a bit like a Greek agreeing with Rudel's imperialism, because that person likes French culture. But I doubt that Greek would love to be overrun by French imperialism.

Well, it's not as simple as that. Most people in Northern Ireland don't want to be unified with the South. They don't want to live in the EU, they're perfectly happy where they are now -- Catholic Irish included who live there.

I've read that Brexit and high Catholic birth rates are likely to yield a Unionist majority by 2050.

Apparently the numbers for NIrish accepting united Ireland is increasing slowly. Is that only if Brexit happens?
Ive seen so many hurdles trying to stop Brexit.
