Something that everyone has probably noticed but not sure how many have tried to see the reasons behind it.
It's that air of innocence and soulfull purity coupled with an almost femine quality that every male figure of advanced civilizations of the past radiates...



Vs the current scruffy, ragged, manly bad boy image...



It's the guy that you could trust with your wallet for an hour, a guy that wouldn't even try to cheat to get ahead in a waiting line vs the guy that would hit on your girlfriend just to do her once and then move on to the next target.
This is why you see all those Southern and Eastern Europeans even on here taking pride on how much more "manly" they are than Northwestern Europeans while being envious of them and wanting to be more like them at the same time. The truth is that many of those traits they consider manly were tossed aside by the more advanced civilization, for it to be built and maintained.

I doubt Southern Europeans can be more manly than Northwestern.Not now,not even back in the times which you speak of in OP,as the barbarians of the North were described as larger taller and scary men by historians of the time.
