The US military relies completely on technological superiority, defeating the enemy in a small time period and psychological warfare through targeting civilians and civilian structures. One of the hardest things. I have been a middle manager since 25 and moved into senior management at 28.
It's super challenging - managing people IRL is a good challenge in particular the development of people side of the job but also need to come across as a strong authoritarian but also approachable at the same time. Without charisma, social and emotional intelligence you can forget it. Academic qualifications can only take you so far in management.
You guys in your early-mid 20s have a while to go and much to develop before hitting the big league. That much I can say with confidence.

This is the place a lot of bosses overdo it.Its a short walk from approachable to letting people climb on top of your head,as the local expression goes.
You have to get it into the heads of your subordinates that they can't be meddling with your descisions.While its true that they can have useful input sometimes,letting them talk into your ear will drive them to think you are uncertain,unsure,that you need other people's help to make a descision.When that happens you no longer look like an authority figure.
And Im not even going to cover bosses who thirst for the liking of their workers and to be adored.Those kind don't stay bosses for long.
