what you see as Rep of Moldova is only the eastern half of Moldova. all Moldovan history happened in the western half, which is in Romania now, but all/united Moldova was an independent state for over half millennium, after that it united with Wallachia (southern Romania) and formed Romania. the eastern part of Moldova is actually named Bessarabia, so the name of the country is somewhat improper, as everything important to Moldova was found in its western side. the name of the country should be changed to Bessarabia, as Moldova is another region:
