Nord-Pas-de-Calais (formerly Flanders-Artois-Hainaut-Cambrésis and Haut-de-France since 2016) is a cool place: good beer, mouth-watering food specialties (Flemish carbonade, Waterzoi, Maroilles cheese tart, chicory gratin, eel cooked with butter and herbs, Carpeaux chestnust cake, slurp...) and warm-hearted people. It was hard to put it somewhere, but as you wrote, the largest part of the region lies in the "blue corner" of my map, (and its phone area code is "northeastern" too).

The most beautiful Xmas markets of France with Alsace. Alsace and North of France are the two jewels of the Northeastern corner, in my opinion.
