I neither support anglification, but we are way more in touch with Anglo culture due to films here which French also watch not being dubbed over. In this case it's French catching on with Anglo culture the same, but one of the past (Obamamania in this case). It think it is a bit funny. Keep in mind that Obama also represented the establishment in the US. The main reason for the initial Obamamania was that the US finally had a president who wasn't Bush and actually sounded smart when he spoke. I expect sane people not to be so enthusiastic about him, especially not since his administration also bombed seven countries ultimately.
This having been said. I still accept your criticism, for many people do obsess about Anglo cultures to sickening levels, almost to the point they want to (very awkwardly) belong to that same culture often to the detriment of their own. It's the worst when they overuse the Anglicisms in their language. At that regard the French do it certainly better, no doubts there.

And even so he was sooo loved by leftists...

The French use too many anglicisms, they don't even try to translate American movie titles. French Canadians, though, do much more to preserve the French language (threatened since Quebec and Acadia are surrounded by Anglos). ALL American movie titles are translated into French in Quebec. Do you want some funny examples? Let's go!
American Pie is American Pie in France too, but in Quebec, it's Folies de Graduation.
Pulp Fiction became Fiction Pulpeuse,
Dirty Dancing = Danse Lascive
Kill Bill = Tuer Bill
Fast & Furious = Rapides et Dangereux
Speed = Clanches! (I don't even know what "clanches" means, certainly a French Canadian word).
Yes, sometimes it's better to keep things in English.
