Baby Boomers: Sixties, Woodstock, "Trente glorieuses", economic boom, from Beatles/Rolling Stones to Pink floyd to Clash, progressive/Liberal ideas, BeeGees, Civil Rights, Man on the Moon, The Beach Boys, Led Zeppelin, Vietnam war, Disco, LSD/Marijuana. Personalities: Hendrix, Clint Eastwood, Charles Manson, Mao, Muhammad Ali, Paul McCartney, Bruce Lee, James Dean, Martin Luther King, Kubrick, Hitchcock, JFK, Nixon. Movies: The Exorcist, Taxi Driver, Star Wars, Psycho, Clockwork Orange, Greese, The Omen...

Generation X: daughters and sons of Baby boomer; MTV generation, cynical, The Simpsons, prince of Bel Air, Protected sex. Berlin wall, Gulf war, VHS tapes, politically correct, punk, Boys bands, Guns and Roses, Beavies and Butthead, The Simpsons, Ecstasy, dance music, X Files, Sonic Youth, Arcade Games, Culture span from Joy Division/Madonna/Commodore/Atari to Gameboy/Grunge/gangsta rap/Super nintendo/Playstation 1, until 9/11. Personalities: Kurt Cobain, Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Maradona, Michael Jordan, Mike Tyson, Tupac until Britney Spears. Generation Y: Turning point: 9/11, RnB, indie bands, generation iPod/internet/XBOX/Playstation 2 and 3, Laptops, Hipsters, Pokemon, MP3, DVD, DivX, Desperate Housewives, Afghanistan war, MP3 players, South Park, blogging, series downloading (Lost, Breaking Bad...), social networks (Facebook/Twitter), fake 60's nostalgia (Instagram, vintage fashion). Personalities: Osama Ben Laden, Zidane, Georges Bush, Tony Blair, Beckham, Beyonce, Di Caprio, Scarlett Johanson. Movies: Scream, Saw, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars (remake), The Ring, Donnie Darko, Eternal Sunshine, Butterfly Effect...

Generation late Y/early Z: very young, generation Bieber, 3D movies,economic crisis, fake 80's nostalgia, Twilight, Lost footage movies, superhero movies, reality TV, smartphones, TV is unimportant, might turn conservative, virtual reality, rejection of RnB/Rap among white people. Personalities: Justin Bieber, Obama, Lionel Messi, Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift, Hanna Montana, Zac Efron. Movies: Dark Knight Rises, Avatar, GoT... (I don't know this generation that much, you might complete)

The pure Gen Z: Trump, Fourth Turning*, terrorist attacks, ...I have no clue what else

*examples of fourth turnings: 1688 (Cromwell revolution), 1776 (Independance day), 1865 (American civil war), 1940 (WWII), 2020 (??)

(You might complete those lists, I prly forgot obvious things... and the borders between generations are not clear cut, and I made up those references, might be inaccurate.)

Note that this is culture specific too, I focused on American culture.

Cynical.

While the students I met were fairly happy and well-adjusted, they are not giddy like so many Generation Y kids were in the 90s. They tend to be more realistic not idealistic, seemingly jaded from the tough economy, terrorism and complexities of life.

Private.

Perhaps its because they watched their older siblings get in trouble from posting controversial content on social media, but younger teens don’t want to be tracked. Apps like Snapchat and Whisper have seen explosive growth in the last few years. In contrast, Facebook has lost 25 percent of this demographic since 2011.

Entrepreneurial.

Like Millennials, these students plan to be pioneers, not merely settlers in a career. 72% of current high school students want to start a business. They feel like hackers, not slackers. Since they’re more jaded, they know life is hard and requires work.

Multi-tasking.

By almost every measurement so far, these Gen Z kids will take multi-taking to a new level. They prefer to be on 5 screens at once, not 2 screens like Millennials. Get ready to communicate to them while they look around, not into your eyes.

Hyper-aware.

Generation Z has communicated enough with marketing researchers and academics to reveal that they experience: 4D Thinking. Because their minds are streaming in so many directions, they’ve become post-moderns who are hyperaware of their surroundings.

Technology-reliant.

This one won’t surprise you. If we thought Millennials were addicted to technology, get ready for more. In surveys, these teens put technology in the same category as air and water. They cannot imagine living without being connected all the time.

Those new kids seem to learn from our Y generation and mistakes still, I wish they could change more things as our sacrificed generation was not for nothing...
