I prefer LA. Most of its southern suburbs are pretty nice.

I have been to SD and SF. Can't speak for LA, but in terms of culture, my vote goes to San Francisco. I'm trying to get out there eventually, if I can find a good job, and a suburb that isn't prohibitively expensive.

San Francisco has way more culture to offer than the other two.
You should note Sacramento, it's totally underrated but it's becoming the Portland of California. Really cool, hip, urban core filled with hipsters, and pretty rural in the outskirts. It's also a very outdoorsy city, very easy to escape the city and get to the great outdoors, just about 40 minutes away.

I have been to all three. I have family in LA too, but I think I prefer San Diego. Best people there too.
LA is too crowded, a bit dangerous, and has crazy road traffic. San Fancisco has lots of gays and just seems weird lol. So San Diego gave me better experiences. Just can't be hit on by a girl again. Just can't...lol
