I wasn't even aware that there was such thing as "Turkish series" popular outside of Turkey, lol. In Portugal we're bombarded with Portuguese and Brazilian soap operas, I doubt any Turkish series can beat that level of drama and cheesyness

Portugal and Brazil are drama-exporting countries as well, you don't need Turkish series. Brazilian soap operas were once much popular in Turkey too. But now Turkish series have become a cult in Latin America, Balkans and Arab countries.

Cult in Latin America? Have they surpassed Brazilian and Mexican soap operas audiences? I highly doubt it but who knows, I don't watch soap operas.

It is popular in countries like Chile, Peru.

I don't appreciate the current TV series though. I mean; all are slow-motion romanticism, like latin or indian soap operas. I think we're trying to copy them. But in the past; we had our own unique tv tradition, with really quality tv series, not only romanticism but also comedy too. There's almost no comedy in today's TV. This is the real drama. The trend will continue because that's what sells in Balkans, Latin countries, Arab countries etc. but I miss the good old TV series in Turkey. As I posted above.
