They want to control the whole God-damned world. The US has come closer to actually pulling that off than any world-leading nation before it.
Once they tied their currency to oil under the petrodollar system in the early 1970s, they tied themselves to the Middle East. They have no choice now.and wastes money in middle eastern wars? Why do they do that?
They can't just sit back and watch oil exporters switching from the USD to other currencies for their oil sales. In order to maintain the value of the USD and, through the fractional reserve banking system, the ability to continue taking on debt forever, they must maintain demand for its use not only for oil but for the majority of other international transactions. This is done by force.
Back to the thread topic question: yes, many people would mourn the decline or fall of America.

America is not falling apart. As far as prosperity is concerned, we are actually doing quite a bit better than the rest of the world. In the immediate future, we can actually finance our debt, unlike China, and Japan, and we arent facing an existential problem with a declining tax base like the rest of the developed world.
In terms of sheer size, the Chinese, and eventually, even Indian economies will surpass ours in terms of sheer size, but not in any other way.
The so called 'American Empire', will likely cease to be the all encompasing hegemon it has become since the end of the Cold War, but who knows? With emerging technologies, and the potential for space exploration and automation creating a new industrial revolution, there is certianly a path to the contiuned dominace of America over the rest of the world.
Regardless, I'm proud to be an American, our collective future is only looking up, especially with Trump in office.
