that map messed up horribly with Slovaks. Def. not a ethnic Slovak, but yeah it is just one sample, but it also represents a big part of the Austrian population. Some closer to the Croatian border are probably closer to Croatians than the German core and those closer to Germany the opposite.

The ancestor born in Slavonski Brod is of Austrian origin. So the real question is his grandmother who was born in Sarajevo of half Bosnian (Bosniak, Croatian or Serbian) origin. Judging by the list of his ancestors she is not.

This great-grandmother married in Brod (Croatia) a post-office worker from Brumov in Moravia, my great-grandfather. His parents came from Klosterneuburg (Lower Austria) and from Hohenmaut in Bohemia and lived in Brno (Moravia). My great-grandfather was stationed in different places in the Balkans, his two sons were born in Tuzla (Croatia), his daughter (my grandmother) in Sarajevo (Bosnia).
