Exposed diagonal bracing usually occurs at building corners, with the second story often sporting a picturesque overhang; this cantilevered construction partially counterbalances the load carried by the spanning portions of the beams."

The first house that Anita and I bought, when we were at Offutt AFB, Nebraska, USA, was a raised ranch with a Tudor style exterior finish...

There are so much lovely examples of this particular architectural style online that I could spend hours or even days looking for them and posting them here. Not all examples are thatched though. Parts of Hampton Court and for instance King's Chapel in Cambridge are also examples of Tudor architecture.

And it wouldn't be completely unfair to say that Tudor architecture has become the archetypical English architectural style (at least in the eyes of many foreigners that have visited England)

The city of Chester, England has some of the finest example of this type

Coventry, England. In a city that was almost wiped from the map during the last war there are still some lovely examples of Tudor architecture: Ford's Hospital.

Some buildings are even older then the Tudor era but the Shambles in York, England must be a very interesting place indeed:

Family Names from Eccles I have found: Farnsworth, Robinson (or Robertson), Marshe and Hey.

Oldest ancestor I can trace is John Hey, born in Eccles sometime in 1483, died there in August 1571...from looking at the records I can find, looks like longevity runs on both my dad's as well as my mom's side.
