Der Mann hat wohl bei den Aladschy Brüdern eine Anleihe gemacht und sich in Deutschland einen Tschakan gekauft. Er wollte die Deutschen dafür bestrafen, dass sie ihn nach dem Kosovo Krieg aufgenommen haben.

How do you know that he was a muslim?

We cannot be sure about his religion, cause the official statements of TV and other media are censored. The police is not allowed to tell people what happened.

Two Italian tourists were also among those injured, Spiegel Online reports.

Claudia Letizia, the mother of one of the victims, shared a photo of her son in his hospital bed. She said he is in intensive care after being hit on the head from behind with the ax. Letizia said the media is downplaying the incident and called it “incomprehensible.”

I guess - the photo is a fake,
The victim seems genuine, the perpetrator is a fake - added to the picture using any software,
He actually used a woodcutter axe with a long handle. This axe in the pic has a short stalk.
