It is when the love is given and received by both. Then a happy marriage. A skewed love is weak and will fail any marriage.

I could be wrong of course, but my theory is that man is happiest when is is not crazy in love, just likes his wife enough to keep her around.

Think of all the successful happy marriages and you will find that the husband wasnt crazy about his wife but he made it work, because he wasnt in love.
When a man is in love crazy nothing good will ever come out of that relationship.

All the marriages where the husband was crazy about his wife have ended in divorce or tragedy, all the marriages where the husband didnt care much about the wife have been successful.

Meh there are more factors in play. Relationship is a challenge - you don't want a challenge you don't get into relationships. Its far from utopia and we consider ourselves settled and very happy. women are women and very healthy doses of negotiation and diplomacy skills are required not to mention all the other skills you are required to learn along the way.

Throughout history the most successful and stable marriages were between older man and younger woman with not too dramatic age difference. Main reasons behind that success were unquestionable respect of woman towards her husband and unconditional loving devotion of man to his wife.
