Discovery of Lulan mummy created ethnic tensions in far western China (Xinjiang)because mummy clearly not East Asian/Mongoloid but mostly Europoid proto-Turkic type. So its like scientific proof area never belonged to Chinese in history.



Uighurs call the mummy 'our grand mother, and mummy became part of Uighur national identity and separatism from China. Lulan mummy is today hot ethnic-social topic in China.
