I couldn't stand Hugo Chavez as I thought he was so rude and outspoken and reminiscent of that rude and outspoken Diego Maradona from Argentina who I can't stand either. I'm pleased he's dead and gone.

I asked some person living in Venezuela about it and he said a large segment of the population actually wishes the US would do something. It's clear this is all on Maduro.

I dont know where are now leftists who criticized Dilma Russeff´s destitution. They are very hypocrite. Many of them follow thinking that Cuba isnt a dictature.

The US doesn't need to prop up any person or group when the man running it is incompetent and the man before him was just as incompetent but was fortunate to be living during a time of high oil prices but instead of saving the money for a rainy day that would eventually arrive they wasted it. Venezuela has no other source to generate wealth except its natural resources and what wealth was generated was spent on keeping the large population living in poverty content in the moment to win votes for the party.

Now there isn't any money for the government to ride out the down turn. This isn't the US government's influence. This is basic economics. Chavez created a Cult of Personality by paying for people's love and Maduro is paying the price for it.

A story that sums up the situation that caused this unfortunate disaster: A relative of mine would sometimes invite a guy and his family that he was friendly with to dinner. The guy was poor and sometimes the family went hungry. He felt bad for them and as I said he was friendly with the man. Like any sensible person who can do so he left Venezuela and moved to Spain. He returned to Venezuela to tie up loose ends and came across his friend. The friend invited him to dinner. The guy now lived in a lovely house and had plenty of food. He clearly did well for himself in a very short period of time. My relative was of course baffled and asked him how did he become so fortunate in such a short time. The man told him 'politics.' He had a good position in the party.

So bureaucratic corruption in places like Venezuela makes some people corrupt, cool...

How about the corporate corruption in the US were a few people in Wall Street make a killing due to being baied out after speculating (gambling) away other's money...and routinely engaging in insider trading?

It's people who don't want to eat stray cats and dogs for dinner any more. It has gotten that bad. The Venezuelan poor discovered that poverty can get worse and politicians aren't magicians who can make food and services appear just by saying they will.

The US has a solid economic infrastructure that lessens the blow of corruption and recession. Other countries do not. Their recessions quickly become depressions and sometimes much worse.
