I've always enjoyed reading this website, even if it is a lot of hyperbole. The rather scathing critiques of the webmaster have made me LOL more than a few times.

Let the Poles erect their statue of Jesus, a foreign man from the near east. We Germans have the large statue of our national hero: Hermann the Cherusker, defeater of the best legions of the Roman Empire and founder of our common German identity.

Hermann's confident face looks to the West, to the French border. As an eternal warning to don't mess with us again.

It's embarassing for me as a Pole. To waste such amount of money on such a worthless goal, damn it... If they would be really so "christian", then they should better help some poor people or something like that. Catholicism in Poland is more about tradition, rituals, statues, symbols than about following the so called christian principles.

While I do like the statue, I must agree. If this was truly Christan project then they could have shown some Christan charity and built a homeless shelter, or something or other.

Rather a giant Jesus then a mosque but then again: who came up with this heinous idea of spending a fortune on an ugly statue towering out over a Polish town with little to no significance which completely ruins the landscape when there are much more beautiful monuments to celebrate their heritage like Częstochowa ? Couldn't they spend the money on updating and renovating that complex instead and adding another monastery to it ?

I am not quite sure whether Jesus himself would have appreciated this non-sense. And I think I already know the answer.
