Spain tells UK to calm down over Gibraltar-Brexit war threats

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disput...s_of_Gibraltar

2016 – After the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union on June 23, Spain reiterated its position that it wanted to jointly govern Gibraltar with the United Kingdom and said it would seek to block Gibraltar from participating in talks over future deals between the UK and EU.[81]
2017 – Following the United Kingdom's triggering of Article 50 to begin the Brexit process,[82] the European council released a series of guidelines on negotiations for withdrawal. Within these guidelines, core principal number 22 stated that "After the United Kingdom leaves the Union, no agreement between the EU and the United Kingdom may apply to the territory of Gibraltar without the agreement between the Kingdom of Spain and the United Kingdom"[83] suggesting that Spain had been given a veto. This angered the United Kingdom's government, with Foreign minister Boris Johnson responding swiftly and re-iterating the United Kingdom's commitment to Gibraltar.

Gibraltar would be better in the EU (90% of its citizens, probably even the apes, voted against Brexit). I think it's time for them to leave Britain (3 centuries are enough). But I'm not quite sure they would like to join Spain and its mass of unemployed people.

Why not becoming a sovereign micronation like Monaco? Both States gain money from gambling. But Gibraltar has an advantage not shared by Monaco: its geostrategic position between Europe and Africa, the Mediterranean and the Atlantic. Besides, they have something like the 3rd highest GDP per capita.
Its national football team has just been officially authorized by the FIFA to compete in international tournaments. Next step should be a UN-recognition and membership.

Independence should be the wisest solution. Cyprus showed the right example and gained its independence from Britain in 1960, Malta in 1964. It would be natural for Gibraltar to follow their steps a half century later.

I didn't added this option because seems that the population want to be part of GB. Anyway, if one of the mods can add this option, there is no problem for me.

I don't get the spanish position there. They are in the same situation with Ceuta and Melilla.
What they get in a place, they loose in another.

For once, I will agree with Melki. The best for Gibraltar is probably to get independance.

Whatever the Gibraltans want. If it's with the UK, deal with it. The EU is swallowing nations and going nowhere. The youth unemployment is appalling and they should be ashamed. Asia is outperforming them.

Gibraltar voted 96% to remain in the EU. What kind of democracy disregards that level of consensus?

The people of Gibraltar should be given another vote - Spain or UK. Let them decide their own future.

Not really. Those two scenarios are not comparable.

The people of Gibraltar should then deal with the fact that a majority of Britons voted against remaining and accept it, which is what democracy is about, after all.
