The fighting an bickering between the North and South is ridiculous. To Americans and most others you are all the same period. I have seen North and South Italians and they are more similar than Italians will admit.


Until Italians can unite the country will continue to have issues with a social class and discrimination.

I think it is counter productive to say North,South and separate the peoples of peninsula.

The fact is that we ARE different, historically, genetically, culturally etc.
However I am for a unified Italia, but with extra care for the regional differences and the preservation of the different cultures, languages and dialects of the peninsula. Nationalism is able to get people under one unified roof but it undermines truth and identity.

By the way if you study Italian history, you'll see that the reasons behind the economic gap between the north and the south are anything but fair for the south from the risorgimento onwards.

This 'fighting' between the north of the south is not a reality besides what is read on the internet. Nowadays it mostly expresses itself as pointing out the social and cultural differences in movies, live comedy and youtube clips, mostly performed by southerners.

The North and South fighting does not exist in real life.

It exists in some extent (mostly in the past decades though) and for jokes only. Regional differences exist also in other countries in Europe but in Italy are mostly about food, minimal cultural differences in everyday life, like traditions and customs. It's not about ethnic issues like for example happens in UK or Spain.

If I do understand please let me know ,,because the bickering between the North and South I have noticed this. We have the same issues in the USA the North and South fight due to politics and culture but it will be our downfall in the USA as politics here is toxic.

What you've noticed is extremely irrelevant, being that the bickering between the North and South has nothing to do with the downfall of Italy.

It exists but not in sense that JohnSmith (or even GiCa) has understood. There is a strong regional/provincial identification and pride but there is no hate like in the Balkans and former Jugoslavia.
