Poor Canadians to receive free basic income

I deal with the homeless all day and this is how their day goes generally. wake up, start withdrawing from drugs, panhandle, once min amount of money is obtained buy heroin, get high, repeat.

That's a horrible life. Free pharmaceutical heroin should also be considered for addicts. I think some places in Europe provide that.

Having a basic guaranteed standard of living encourages civic and work participation because citizens are bound by a social contract to help their fellow citizens. In a cutthroat capitalist country like the U.S. people do not feel any connection to one another; they are merely islands unto themselves. It creates isolation and alienation. People are not only alienated from the products of their labor but from one another.

I think the US needs a system like this, but it's probably impossible due to its more conservative electorate.

According to the economic freedom index, Canada is more capitalist than the USA. The US isn't even in the top 10 anymore. Canada ranks 7th in the world, Hong Kong is 1st.

Basic income only works if you give it to everyone. Otherwise it's just enhanced welfare and the whole incentive to work is gone.

Welfare in Canada does not cover basic living necessities, welfare in my province is only 500 a month max, that doesnt even cover the cheapest rent. The idea is that if peoples basic needs are met, they are more productive because once youre homeless you cant get out, no one is gonna hire a stinky homeless person to even work at mcdonalds. it also means all people have the ability to go to school, learn a trade ect. if basic needs are not met they cant do that.

Canada is a pretty blessed country, there is a ton of money here, no one should starve that's absurd.
