Photo of woman defying EDL protester in Birmingham goes viral



A photograph showing a young woman smiling bemusedly at an incensed English Defence League protester has been widely shared as a symbol of Birmingham’s defiance in the face of the far right.

The image, which has been shared thousands of times on social media, was captured during a demonstration by the far-right group in Birmingham city centre on Saturday. It shows a man, wearing an EDL T-shirt, staring into the eyes of the young woman, who is looking back at him unfazed. A police officer appears to be restraining the man.

The woman pictured has been identified as Saffiyah Khan, a Birmingham resident. She told the BBC that when the picture was taken, she had stepped forward to defend a woman wearing a hijab who had been surrounded by a group of men.

“I don’t like seeing people getting ganged up on in my town,” Khan said. She added that she was “quite surprised” by the reaction to the photo.

The EDL demonstration attracted around 100 people, and was condemned by Labour, Liberal Democrat and Conservative leaders of Birmingham city council, who said the group was not and never would be welcome in their city.

The demonstration saw a heavy police presence, including riot vans. West Midlands police said two people, thought to be counter-protesters, had been arrested for alleged breaches of the peace.

I can tell you all that is wrong with this, and there are plenty things wrong here.
1st of all this is being presented as the little guy vs the "man" and it has not been like this since probably the 70's when the leftists became "the man". She is a representative of "the man", not fighting it. Secondly that guy is just a short little genetic failure that has nothing better to do than go hang out with other folks of his ilk, get drunk and yell "Britain for duh Brhi-ish" or some shit like that. He won't really change anything that's why Tommy Robinson. A man that is actually smart and seems to be making a difference totally cut all associations with these folks. These folks are totally oppressed in certain ways as they're not really different than the Pakis on welfare with a low IQ and thousands of useless kids, they're just white so they get no sympathy. Another thing wrong with this is that the woman is not representative of Pakistanis. You have a young, cute-ish Pakistani woman with a punk-like nose-ring. Trust me, I know these folks, she's far from representative. Most Pakistani women are repressed and strongly Muslim. Who also knows what views she really holds? I bet you she's not really a Muslim, it doesn't appear so, but she might easily be a SJW that hates whites, it's doubtful that she actually represents "love" or "unity".... It's essentially propaganda as usually IRL the ones being victimized are whites and the offenders are not in the UK as non-whites are over-represented when it comes to violent crimes.

The only reason that photo is gaining traction is because the woman is attractive (especially as far as South Asian phenotypes are concerned).
