A TWO-year-boy and his parents have suffered horror burns after a toxic chemical was flung at them on a London street – hitting the tot’s face while in a pram and leaving his dad with life-changing injuries.
Emergency crews were called to a residential street in Islington just after 1pm yesterday following reports a “noxious substance” had been thrown at the three victims.
Police were called to the junction of Caledonian Road and Copenhagen Street in Islington
It is understood the acid was thrown at the man, with the substance then splashing onto a woman and the child.
Shop owner Murat Kayran, 43, said: “They were a Chinese family, a woman frantically ran in here when it happened and said ‘there’s been an acid attack’
“She bought one bottle at first and then after that bought three more bottles of 1.5l water to pour on the man’s burns after a person threw acid in his face.
“Then a gentleman came in and bought another three.
“About five minutes later and ambulance and police cars turned up, as well as the fire brigade.
“It’s such a scary thing to happen.”
All three were taken to hospital and the Evening Standard reports the young boy has slight chemical burns to his face.
Both he and his mum, 36, were described as having minor injuries but the condition of his dad, 40, is believed to be life changing.
At the scene firefighters used water from a hose to cool the victims' burns.
London Fire Brigade said tests had shown the unknown liquid had a PH level of 1 making it a "strong acid and oxidising substance”.
Scotland Yard said: "Police in north London are appealing for witnesses and information following an acid attack on a family in Islington.
