If anything, Sanders seems pretty clueless on many fronts. He just seems like the old bum on the street corner who keeps mouthing off about "what's really going on", but doesn't have the slightest clue about the real world or how to put deals together.

I believe that after getting into office, Donald Trump learned the hard lesson that every President gets to learn sooner or later: America is a client state of Israel. Trump was in on it all along. The plan always was to keep pushing in Syria and elsewhere. Trump just pulled a classic plausible deniability stunt. He had been saying that he didn't want escalation in Syria, to let Russia deal with it, etc., but then, suddenly, there was this terrible gas attack, and Trump's position on Syria changed; his hand was forced, by the sight of dead babies. At least, that is what he would have us believe. I don't buy that at all.

The US does not want to be seen as an outright aggressor. It needs a more palatable excuse for making a violent entrance. Dead babies satisfy that requirement nicely.

They know we suffer from amnesia and can be easily manipulated. False flag attacks are intended to manufacture the consent of the people for action that they would otherwise not support, and to silence opprobrium towards imperial violence within the international community. The official imperial propaganda that Assad orchestrated that gas attack does not pass the sniff test.
