One of the most interesting Greeks of the 15-16th centuries, born in free Konstantinoupolis in 1445, Ianos Laskaris, [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Janus_Lascaris"]Janus Lascaris - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame], from the known imperial family of Laskarids, and one of the Greek refugees in the West, while in a papal delegation to the king Francis I of France, he can't hold himself, and adressing to the King, saying, after around 1525:


« Όχι μόνον ο Πάπας, αλλά και η αρχαία Ελλάς, Μεγαλειότατε, με στέλλει ενταύθα, δια να σας καθικετεύσω και λάβητε έλεος υπέρ αυτής. Λέγων αρχαίαν Ελλάδα, εννοώ τους μεγάλους εκείνους άνδρας, τους οποίους η γη αυτή παρήγαγε, και οίτινες καθωράϊσαν και εδίδαξαν εις τον κόσμος πάσαν αρετήν, και πολιτισμόν.
