I'll be fine. lol I think your friends may have went in there thinking it was going to be more developed, or they may have been naive. I usually go into places well aware of what it would be like and take proper precautions. Plus, I am 6'2 and 220 lbs and have a lot of street smarts. I'll be fine lol.

Alright. Just don't let your guard down:

Oh, and make sure you book a hotel that has a proper toilet facility too, and watch out for shit on the streets.

There have been many non-state attacks in Mumbai since the 13 coordinated bomb explosions that killed 257 people and injured 700 on 12 March 1993.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_Mumbai_attacks
There was also the Mumbai Shootings in 2008 carried out by Islamic jihadists from Pakistan who travelled to India and shot and killed loads of western tourists.

The terrorists raided the rooms inside the grand and luxurious hotels and tourist restaurants in Mumbai, looking for tourists and demanding to see peoples passports, and over 90 people were killed - especially any tourist who was carrying a British or American passport, but other westerners and a few eastern-asian tourists were also killed in the massacre.

this stuff is more infrequent in India than mass shootings in the US. OP really has nothing to worry about, other than maybe getting swindled by some street dealer. If you are traveling as a woman alone, then it is a different story.

Wouldn't know what to suggest. I chatted with some Indian dude from Mumbai before. He said the city is way too overcrowded and hectic and he doesn't like living there.
No idea how one would travel somewhere and not know the language though. I've heard Goa and southern India is a lot nicer.

Shit, look at all the terrorist attacks in Europe. Should I never go to London, Paris or Madrid?

Well, I figure Mumbai is the New York of India. So might as well end the trip there, before I fly back to the states. Probably going to stop by Singapore for about 3 days. I have a friend there.
