I think it varies from person to person depending on what your body type is and what your goals are. For example I've needed to add bulk so I focus on compound lifts (clean and press, squat, deadlift, bench press) in addition to supplementary body weight work (chins, pull-ups, core exercises). Looking good naked doesn't matter to me as much as having functional strength for what I need to do (although it's an added bonus).
I have the same body type, so most of my power comes from my legs as a result, but my upper body is starting to catch up now.
